Wellspring Circle offers a vibrant day habilitation program filled with engaging, enriching, educational, and energetic activities, spanning a total of 6 hours daily.
Strategies and Skills
Following a person-centered approach, and in keeping with the goals and outcomes outlined in the Individual Service Plan (ISP), we identify the main strategies that are the primary focus and goals for the individual and develop these through the different activities we offer.
The primary six strategies we focus on include:
Social and Communication Skills
- Social Skills are a crucial part of Life! We want to assure appropriate interaction through education, awareness, modeling and reinforcing behaviors such as: greeting each other, participating in conversation and activities, taking turns in a group activity, asking questions or asking/gesturing for assistance, sharing an opinion or preference, complimenting or applauding a peer during an activity and so on.
Physical Health and Safety
- Health and Safety are vital components to an individual’s wellbeing. Through various exercise programs such as yoga, tai chi, zumba, chair exercises, dance and activities like bowling, ring toss, balloon volleyball among many other physical activities throughout the month. Safety is our number one priority for each activity, trip and overall operations of our program.
Mental Wellness
- Activities that focus on visual imagery, meditation, breathing, and mindfulness exercises. We also include emotional wellness through discussion groups, special events, and individual and group interactions promote optimal health and wellness.
Decision-Making and Autonomy
- Choice is a key component to person centered care. These activities will evolve around conversations around choice, evaluating options, identifying steps to complete a task, selecting activities from available options, making shopping lists, and so on.
Self-Care Skills
- This includes (ADLs) Activities of Daily Living and (IDL’s) Independent Activities of Daily Living that encompasses a range of daily life activities like how to do laundry, make a bed, wash dishes, cleaning, sweeping dusting, vacuuming, organizing closets, creating a grocery shopping list, how to tell time – time management skills, money management skills, prepping-cooking-assisting with simple meals.
Creativity and Recreation
- Recreation includes Leisure Skills and Activities through individual pursuits, small and large group programs, ie, Programs that include empowerment, expressive and creative programs through theme-related special events, arts and crafts, conversations and activities related to different art forms, crafts that focus on fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, games and puzzles that foster individual skills development as well as group interaction, and understanding and following rules.
